The history of the Marie Dressler House is here. It is now the home of the Interactive Canadian Women in Film Museum.

The Marie Dressler Story
Born in Cobourg, Canada - one of Hollywood's greatest stars
The Dressler Story: to Dream, to Dare, to Persist, to Win
Cobourg is the birthplace of Marie Dressler - one of the greatest comediennes of her generation and one of Hollywood's best loved stars.
This is the official site of the Marie Dressler Foundation whose mission is to make sure that Marie Dressler is remembered. The Foundation, a registered charity, was created to raise money to restore her house when it was burnt down in 1989 (More here).
Vintage FIlm Festival
Our largest activity has been the Vintage Film Festival which is held on a weekend in October every year.
Bursaries
Another major activity of the Foundation is to award scholarships/bursaries to students planning to pursue an education in the arts field. There is a list of previous scholarship winners here.

Marie Dressler on Local Radio
On August 30, Rick Miller, Chair of the Marie Dressler Foundation was interviewed on Northumberland FM 98.7, a local Radio station. The show was called "In Your Own Backyard" and Rick talked for about 50 minutes on a range of subjects including the early life of Marie Dressler, the Museum being rebuilt in Marie Dressler House, the Vintage Film Festival, an upcoming (2017) documentary Film Festival, the Bursaries being provided for local students and more. Marie Dressler Celebration Dinner
At the Woodlawn Inn, 420 Division St., Cobourg
A fundraising event for Marie Dressler Foundation featuring a sparkling wine reception, a four course dinner with wines and an after-dinner talk by Matthew Kennedy, author of "Marie Dressler: A Biography"
Tickets are $100. (no HST) with a donation tax receipt for a portion of the ticket price.
A limited number of tickets were available - but not now since the event is past.
Marie Dressler Celebration Day
Cobourg Town Council has proclaimed September 24th to be "Marie Dressler Celebration Day" in Cobourg.
Come and Celebrate the Grand Opening of Canada's newest museum featuring "From Cobourg to Hollywood: The Story of Marie Dressler".
Celebrations start at 1:00 pm with free cake, ice-cream, and drinks following the official opening ceremony.

2016 Bursaries
This year, the Marie Dressler Foundation today handed out four bursaries at $1500 each to four students from Northumberland High Schools - this year three from Cobourg and a sturdent from Warkworth who attended Northumberland East High School in Brighton. Each winner is a student graduating from Grade 12 in 2016 and intends to pursue a further education in this field.
